Children's famine in Somalia

"Today, Somalia is going through one of the the worst humanitarian catastrophes that any human being could imagine." UNICEF Emergency Specialist Maulid Warfa appeals for support from southern Somalia, where malnutrition rates among children are approaching 50% in some areas - placing half of the children at risk of starvation. Please support UNICEF's East Africa Children's Crisis appeal and help us save lives now.

Emotional Horn of Africa Appeal

10 million Muslims are suffering in the Horn of Africa amidst the worst drought seen in 60 years. Poverty has become extreme: children are dying of starvation, pregnancies are resulting in miscarriages and farmers' livelihoods are being destroyed. Many mothers along with their children say they have walked for a month on bare and bloodied feet to refugee camps in Kenya. Journeys of more than 300 miles are common. In their search for food and water, they have slept for weeks on burning sand under open skies.Water is now so scarce that the governor of the Middle Shabelle region, Abdullahi Moalim Hussain, recently said: 'Water is so expensive in the area that people are being buried without being washed, which is compulsory in Islam.'

Help End World Hunger

More than one billion people - approximately 1/6 of the world's population are hungry. And every day nearly 16,000 children die from hunger and related causes. We have the resources to feed the world. We just need the will. Learn about global hunger and what you can do to help.
All proceeds from this page are donated to A Day of Hope, a non-profit organization that provides food to need families in Stanislaus, California.

World Vision Gifts -- Global Food Crisis Fund

The global food crisis is endangering the lives of nearly one billion hungry people around the world. They are threatened by starvation — a slow and painful death. As worldwide food prices soar, the hope of getting even a meal a day is fading fast. That's why your gift today is so critical.Because of government grants, your gift will be multiplied 6 times to help feed hungry children and families, and provide seeds, tools, and more so they can grow their own food in the future. You will literally help us save lives by making it possible for hungry children to receive life-giving food.In times of crisis it is the poorest populations — especially children — who suffer most. The current food crisis has already pushed another 40 million people deeper into poverty. And tragically, more than 13,000 hungry children die every day. Please give generously to help us continue providing food and other care to those in greatest need.Help those affected by the global food crisis..

Situation critical in Somalia

In this region of conflict, where a catastrophic drought is causing severe hunger and malnutrition, vulnerable children and families are desperate for relief. World Vision is escalating its relief efforts as humanitarian needs increase.

World Vision Gifts -- Food for Africa

Millions of children in Africa are malnourished and at risk of starvation. Your gift today will multiply 7x to provide lifesaving food, clean water, agricultural support, and other essential care to hungry children and families across Africa. Please help save a life today.Imagine being the parent of a hungry child, desperately searching for help while your baby weakens, unable to provide the food and care he or she desperately needs. The numbers of severely malnourished children continue to increase in Africa. Can you help before it's too late? A reliable source of nutritious food can cut a community's child death rate in half. Sadly, rising food and fuel prices have caused some regular food delivery channels to dry up, and many parents can no longer afford to feed their children. Millions now endure life-threatening hunger night and day. Thanks to government grants, your gift today will multiply 7 times to help children and families throughout Africa, where the need is especially urgent in places like Kenya, Sudan, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Please pray for the hungry children in Africa, and send a life-saving gift today.

I Wish To Go Somehwere Where I Can Swim and Stay the Night

5-year-old Josephine, from Denmark, had a very unique wish. Josephine lives with a congenital heart defect and dreamed of going somewhere where she could "swim and stay the night."
One day two Make-A-Wish Denmark volunteers visited Josephine to find out her most cherished wish. Her parents, Joseph and Lisa, and her brothers, David and Benjamin, were there too. It was clear rather quickly that Josephine was a real princess and although she had just recently had surgery, she was very energetic. Josephine told the volunteers about her love of swimming and her dream to go somewhere you can "swim and stay the night."
The volunteers left with their mission while Josephine and family waited anxiously until the day when they returned with a big surprise. Josephine was given a Make-A-Wish Barbie, then a lovely princess dress, but she couldn't imagine that the volunteers had more. Finally they handed her tickets for a trip for the entire family to the Lalandia resort!
On the way to Lalandia Josephine and her brothers asked their parents to drive slowly to make the trip last as long as possible. In Lalandia they swam and played in the pools, tried making candy, skiing, playing badminton and so much more. They even ate at the restaurant every day, so mom and dad could also relax.

Chalcedony, a 6-year-old boy from New Zealand, spends a lot of time in the hospital. His wish, as you might imagine, was for something to help him pass the time, so Chalcedony wished to have a new laptop for games and schoolwork. Chalcedony is also a huge Hurricanes Rugby fan and Ma’a Nonu, a famous New Zealand All Blacks Rugby player, is his hero. There was no better way then, for Chalcedony’s wish to be delivered than with Ma’a doing the honors. The whole family was overjoyed to have Ma’a as a guest in their home and enjoyed meeting and chatting with him.
